Captain’s lake

Kapetanovo jezero

Captain Lake, at the foot of the Morača mountains, is often a place where are gathering a lovers of nature and fishing. It was named after Captain Musovic from Niksic that during the struggle with the Turks fought bravely and defended these areas. The length of this glacial lake is 480 m, width 200, a depth of about 37 meters. Captain Lake is situated at an altitude of 1673m and around him are mountains with peaks  Lukavica, Žurim, Rogođed and Stožac. Color of the lake is from chestnut to dark gray, and is rich with fish. It is the third lake by depth in Montenegro, after the Black and Skadar Lake. It’s fulling with several sources, precipitation and by a stream. Lake belong to municipality of Kolasin, but it is  near Niksic (40 kilometers) and is, therefore, usually resort of their sitizen. A number of people who gather on the shores of the lake is large on Ilin day, when the tribe  from these parts together in council.

Not far from him, but with much steeper approach, is the Manito Lake. It is some 40 minutes from Captain’s lake, and called also Brnjičko by rocky areas Brnik. It’s long  220 m, 140 m wide and 13 meters deep. It is very clear and clean, because of its inaccessibility.

Pošćensko jezero

Poscensko Jezero is one of the lakes on Jezerska Povrs (Plateau of Lakes). It is closest to the edge of Durmitor. Poscensko Jezero (1487 m, 3.6 m deep) is one of 18 mountain lakes of Durmitor National Park. Durmitorians called them “Gorske oci” (Mountain Eyes). After glaciation in last ice age, during melt of ice, Durmitor’s lakes was born.
